A cornerstone of Europe, Barcelona is a must-see city and one that — in a week's time — will pair the thrill of motorsport with rich culture, stunning architecture and world-class gastronomy.
If you’re visiting for European Le Mans Series (ELMS) testing or 4 Hours of Barcelona, make sure to take some time to explore beyond the track.
Here’s your comprehensive guide to the best things to do in Barcelona when you’re not at the races…

Explore Gaudí’s architectural marvels

Barcelona is synonymous with the genius of Antoni Gaudí. His masterpieces are scattered around the city and they bring the Catalan capital to life.
Sagrada Família – This iconic basilica, still under construction after more than a century, is a breathtaking blend of Gothic and Art Nouveau styles.
Park Güell – A colourful, mosaic-laden park offering spectacular views of the city.
Casa Batlló & La Pedrera – Two of Gaudí’s most famous residential buildings, located on Passeig de Gràcia, showcase his innovative designs.

Stroll through the Gothic Quarter

One of the most vibrant areas of Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is a maze of narrow medieval streets lined with historic buildings, hidden squares, and charming cafes.
La Catedral de Barcelona – A stunning example of Gothic architecture.
Plaça Reial – A lively square filled with restaurants, bars and nightlife.
El Born District – A trendy area with boutique shops, tapas bars, and the impressive Santa Maria del Mar church.

Eat your way through the city

Barcelona’s culinary scene is a blend of traditional Catalan flavours and modern gastronomy. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or indulging in a fine dining experience, the city has plenty to offer.
La Boqueria Market – This famous market off La Rambla is a food lover’s paradise, offering fresh seafood, Iberian ham, and local delicacies.
Tapas bars – Try classics like patatas bravas, pan con tomate and seafood paella at spots like El Xampanyet, Quimet & Quimet – or stroll into one of the many restaurants on Carrer de Blai.
Michelin-Starred dining – Barcelona boasts a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, such as Disfrutar and ABaC, which all provide an unforgettable dining experience.

Relax by the beach

If you’re looking to unwind, Barcelona’s coastline is the perfect place to soak up some sun or enjoy a stroll with beautiful views.
Barceloneta Beach – The most famous city beach, offering golden sand and lively beach bars.
Bogatell Beach – A less touristy alternative, filled with beach volleyball courts and sports opportunities.
Garraf – A 30-minute train ride outside of the city will take you to this gorgeous cove beach.

Enjoy Barcelona’s nightlife

After a day of racing action, experience the city’s vibrant nightlife.
El Born & Gothic Quarter – Great for cosy bars and intimate cocktail lounges.
Vila de Gràcia – A more local area in the north of the centre boasting plenty of bars and terraces to sit and enjoy a caña or a vermut.
Clubs – Opium and Pacha, located near the beach, are popular spots for late-night partying.

Day trips beyond the city

If you have some extra time, consider venturing beyond Barcelona for a change of pace.
Montserrat – A stunning mountain range with an historic monastery, just an hour from the city.
